No big deal, right? Just get a new one and head home? Wrong. Dead wrong. What follows is 36 hours of absolute chaos on the streets of Dubai with a 35kg suitcase, nowhere to stay, and zero solutions in sight. Cue: Being rejected from every hotel, breaking down in tears... and being referred to social services! Plus, losing £3.5K worth of Airbnb's and finally getting some sleep... in a hotel lobby. Moral of the story: use the safety deposit box, never use your passport as ID in Dubai and maybe don't assume your passport will magically reappear just because it's Dubai.
