Shawn Wayles is the traditional hero. He is an experienced operative, educated, gutsy and bold, and is a marksman. With no dog in the race, he is determined to execute his mission without prejudice.General Mlevi Kainewaragi is Shawn’s counterpart. Son of Muaji, the middle-aged man is power hungry, dictatorial, and shrewd. He is working out of the public eye to orchestrate the next phase of Uganda’s history.Joanne Nambatya is the innocent caught in the middle. She and her sister-friend Helen Namusoke work in Uganda’s sex trade to provide for themselves and Joanne’s son. Joanne has no interest in state politics, and when her association with Shawn puts her on a kidnap list, her only goal is to survive.THE MISSING CORPSE takes us to the beautiful Ugandan countryside but also to it’s underbelly. Lovers of hard-hitting thrillers with car chases, fighting, and continuously changing odds will find a lot to sink your teeth into. Trigger warnings apply for depictions of graphic sex and sexual violence and torture.The logic stands-up in this cat-and-mouse style story. Shawn’s mission is consistent from the start, as is the General’s goal. What happens when the two collide is the thing of thrills. I have a few small questions about Joanne, but nothing that detracts from the story. The ending was very interesting from a storytelling perspective but certainly was satisfying.THE MISSING CORPSE is the second book in The General’s Project series. I have not read the first. Book 2 is set some four years later with, from what I can tell, little carrying over. Sigurd, crab boat owner and operatorGull, first mate and friend for over 20 yearsHammer, engineer, Native American, and former copHere’s what Drake knows:• On the voyage back after a successful crab harvest, Lep O was found in one of the king crab holds. The crabs devoured him. His skull had a large fracture.• The official investigation ruled the death accidental. Under federal jurisdiction, the victim’s family can sue, which Sarah, Capt. Sigurd’s daughter, did.• Capt. Sigurd’s granddaughter, Sarah’s daughter, Debbie, married Lep O while away at college. Lep O assaulted Debbie, but she refused to press charges.• Capt Sigurd hired the man on to separate him from his granddaughter. Sigurd admitted that if Lep O hadn’t died in the hold, he would have thrown him overboard.Capt. Sigund acknowledged negligence in his statement to Drake, saying the hold was open, so he accepted responsibility.Gull is the crane operator who handles moving the pots and placing the steel covers over the crab holds. The last time he saw Lep O, the man was crossing the street.Gull claims the title of Debbie’s “adopted uncle.” He thought little of his nephew-in-law.Hammer, a Native American, has been with Sigurd for 2-years, since quitting law enforcement. As the engineer, he’s responsible for the boat’s seaworthiness. The last time he saw Lep O was inside the bar accosting a waitress.Hammer had suspected Lep O was stealing native art. This was confirmed when he found a head piece in a box marked as frozen bait.Sigurd claims he was in his cabin at the time Lep O went into the hold.Lep O had been cleaning the hold in which he died. It was still open when he went ashore to the nearby bar. He hit on and then assaulted a waitress. Hammer had arrived by that point and intervened, putting Lep O into a chokehold. A knife fight nearly broke out.Lep O left the bar and didn’t show up for work the next morning.Was Lep O’s death a not-so-sad accident or who did the definitely on purpose?ABOUT Larry M.     Teasdale has a crispy critter on his hands, a victim of his own stupidity. But who is he? Teasdale needs our help to put a name on the toe tag. The potential victim, in the order they were mentioned, are:

    • Hunter Marsh, drywaller

    • Randy Overton, drywaller

    • Toby Zyan, electrician

    Here’s what Teasdale knows:

    1. During a Lake Erie storm, someone decided to tamper with the substation feeding Buckland Township. Responding to the outage, the utility crew discovered the body of a person killed by arc flash. There are no visually identifying features remaining.
    2. Next to the body was a gold ring. It was determined to belong to Hunter Marsh
    3. A pick-up truck found near to the substation belonged to Randy Overton, a dry wall installer who is reported to be terrified of electricity
    4. A separate pick-up truck was found off a state route. It was filled with five dead animals, a case of cheap beer, and an oversized box of chips. The truck traced back to Hunter Marsh.
    5. The Dupree Crew was suspected of orchestrating burglaries at homes where Dupree’s construction crew worked. The crew’s MO was to go in while the residents were gone, steal tools, alcohol, and snacks, the lock up behind them.
    6. Caretaker Culpepper was checking on his client’s houses when he found four generators were disabled. Only the house of the star basketball player was broken into.
    7. Dupree reported that they were planning to burgle the four homes when Marsh wanted to back out. Overton took Marsh’s ring telling him he could have it back when the jobs were done.
